The new year is here! This means that it's a perfect time for you to refresh your career. I'm talking about taking stock of all the things you've accomplished this past year and making sure that your resume and online presence reflect those accomplishments.

How To Refresh for the New Year

The New Year is here and it’s time to refresh your resume and social media. Are you ready?

Here are a few tips on how to make sure that you are prepared for the opportunities that await:

Refresh your resume. The first thing anyone will see when they look at your resume is if it looks current. If it doesn’t, then they may think that you haven’t been looking for work recently or that the company has changed since you last worked there. Be sure to update all of your credentials, including education, certifications and references that should be updated every year or two (or more often). If you don’t have up-to-date information on LinkedIn as well as an active profile there, now would be a good time to do so!
Update social media accounts with recent photos/information – When people search for candidates online (via Google), they will likely check out their Twitter/Facebook/Linkedin profiles first so make sure everything looks good! This includes making sure all the content posted was created within the last year or two depending on what role they are applying for…it also helps if there are some current photos taken within the last 6 months :)

Update Your Resume

With the new year, it’s time to update your resume. You should have a resume that reflects your current experience and can be easily read and understood by employers. Make sure you use a professional font, layout, and bullet points to highlight important information. A photo of yourself will help show who you are as a person, while also helping with branding yourself online (if someone looks at this photo in 30 years they will still know what type of work I did). Including a link to your LinkedIn profile will show potential employers that you care about networking with others professionally as well as personally!

Revise Your Social Media Accounts

If you're like most people, you've got a lot of old posts, photos and accounts online. It's time to clean up your internet presence and make it more professional. Start by deleting any embarrassing photos or text messages that are no longer relevant to your work. Then go through your social media profiles and delete any old posts that may be embarrassing or otherwise inappropriate for a future employer to see. Be sure to remove any email addresses from websites that may be sending out mass emails with lots of unprofessional content (and make sure those emails are no longer being sent). Finally, if possible, consider changing the password for all these sites so that nobody can access them without it!

Check In With Your Network

You've probably heard about the importance of networking in your career, but now that the New Year is here, it's time to take action. The following tips will help you stay on top of your game and get ahead in 2023:

Ask for referrals. While you may be hesitant to reach out to people who could potentially give you work or recommend you as a candidate, asking them for their opinion on how they think your career could improve can help fill in any gaps that may exist between where you are now and where you want to go next.
Check in with past colleagues and clients. If there are any former colleagues or clients who might still be willing to connect with their networks after working together, this is an opportunity to reconnect and ask them what they think would make their current position more successful than before—and then do those things!

Be Available

Be available to meet with prospective clients, potential employers, friends and family. All of these people want to see you in person more than ever before because they know that this is the perfect time for new beginnings.
